Canadian Parents for French – NWT is a network of volunteers which values French as an integral part of Canada and which is dedicated to the promotion and creation of French second language learning opportunities for young Canadians and their families in the Northwest Territories. CPF NWT Branch is currently recruiting for the position of Executive Director. The Executive Director (ED) provides leadership for the organization and manages and directs all programs, operations and activities across the Northwest Territories. Reporting to the board of directors, the incumbent must be an independent and energetic person with an interest in organizational excellence, official languages, and education.


  • The ED leads the organization and achieves its strategic aims. These includes, but are not limited to: the development of a strategic plan for 2019-22, developing an operating plan, engaging with outside parties to promote French as a second language in the Territory.
  • Ensures the ongoing financial stability of the organization.
  • Coordinates all organization activities and provides operational, logistical, and administrative support to CPF Chapters in Yellowknife (2), Fort Smith, and Hay River (forthcoming).
  • Plans, supervises and carries out the organization’s administrative operations.
  • Develops and implements organizational tools (report, contracts, etc.).
  • Represents the organization at CPF Chapter and Branch meetings and events, as well as at those of CPF partners.
  • Develops and implements public and private funding strategies.
  • Reports regularly to the Board of Directors on operational progress (logistical, administrative, financial).
  • Promotes the importance of French as a second language to youth, parents, senior government officials, partners, stakeholders and potential funders (information kiosks at the schools, Café parents, political meetings, etc.).
  • Participates in monthly conference calls with other CPF EDs and senior management across Canada.
  • Travels and participates in various annual CPF National conferences and meetings across Canada (approximately 1-2 per year).

Working Conditions
CPF NWT Branch offers competitive working conditions in a stimulating environment:

  • One-year contract***
  • Full time (35 hours/week)
  • Flexible schedule and possibility of teleworking/telecommuting
  • Autonomy in the performance of ED duties

***At the end of the one-year contract, after assessing the organizational strength of CPF NWT Branch and the collaboration established with the contractor, contract renewal in a full-time permanent position may be offered.

  • Leadership: Able to spearhead initiatives, seek solutions, team build, and mentor to effectively achieve organisational requirements.
  • Able to manage conflict, seek mutual understanding, and effectively communicate complex ideas across language barriers.
  • Experience with applications for funding, program-based budgeting, budget administration and strategic planning (ability to grasp the economic challenges of developing a non-profit organization)
  • Planning and organizational skills


  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Administration, Recreation, Leisure Management or a related field (equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered)
  • 1-2 years’ relevant experience
  • Management and administrative knowledge Computer skills, in particular Microsoft Office
  • Comfortable using web communications tools (Social media, Canva, newsletter, etc.).
  • Bilingual: French and English
