Manager/Senior Manager, Commercial Development

This is a Contract position in Outaouais, QC posted August 23, 2017.

Reporting to the Vice-President, Commercial Development, the Manager/Senior Manager will be responsible for working and interacting with various business units such as Trading, Asset Management, Operations, Business Development, and others to understand the market dynamics of deregulated electricity within various markets in North America, identify challenges and opportunities for assets in Brookfield’s existing portfolio, and support growth opportunities. The Manager/Senior Manager will also assist the Commercial Development team in their core activities including long term contracting of Brookfield’s merchant renewable generation, and more specifically through customer and policyengagement in order to develop innovating business solutions.


  • Assists in developing, growing and maintaining an active wholesale electric marketing business;
  • Develop andreviewpossibleoff-take agreements from a business perspective in order to protect or enhance revenue opportunities;
  • Supporta network andadvancerelationships with potential off-takers including regulated utilities, cooperatives, municipal utilities, government agencies, merchant LSEs and direct customers;
  • Build an internal network to support advancement of contractingopportunities and manage cross functional and cross organizational teams.
  • Support key marketing initiatives and alliances;
  • Complete market analysis including power market fundamental economic overviews, renewable energy supply and demand projections and competitor economic analysis;
  • Monitor ongoing market trends in the electricity and renewable electricity markets;
  • Prepare responses to Request for Proposals (RFP) and negotiate complex, structured transactions;
  • Manage internal approvals and valuations of deal economics;
  • Participate in trade groups and industry associations to enhance future business, and become the expert on related commercial and regulatory issues;
  • Develop recommendations/action plans and tools, and manage multiple assignments simultaneously;
  • Contribute to commercial planning/budgeting for assets consistent with the company’s business plan.

  • English essential; bilingualism (English and French) an asset.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Engineering or an equivalent field; MBA or other Master’s degree is an asset;
  • Minimum of five (5) years of commercial and outreach experience, preferable in the power sector;
  • Experience in the power sector leading the design and development of commercial strategies is considered an asset, specifically:
    • In-depth working knowledge of current and pending issues within the North American power markets, including market rules and operating systems;
    • Knowledge of the electricity trading and merchant industry practices; including natural gas and other energy commodities.
    • Knowledge of electrical transmission and specific regional knowledge of transmission constraints, electric power generation, regional market trends, key market participants, and regulatory issues;
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • The level of this position (Manager/Senior Manager) will be determined based on the profile of the successful candidate.
