Industrial Occupational Health and Safety Officer

Ivaco Rolling Mills, a major steel wire rod manufacturer in the Eastern Ontario region, is seeking an Industrial Occupational Health and Safety Officer for its facilities in L’Orignal Ontario. Reporting to the Health and Safety Supervisor, the Industrial Occupational Health and Safety Officer evaluates and monitor workplace environments to ensure safety of employees in the workplace. The position is responsible for developing strategies to maintain risk management and ensure that the safety standards in the workplace comply with standard safety regulations of an industrial workplace.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain and enhance safety conditions of the site facilities to ensure they do not pose a threat or risk to employees, the workplace, clients, or the general public.
  • Perform daily safety audits in the manufacturing sites focusing on the work environment and promoting safe work practices.
  • Investigate safety claims and workplace accidents.
  • Provide training and consultation on safety standards in the workplace to employees and ensure all employees are adhering to these regulations.
  • Adhere to safety standards and regulations as set out applicable legislation.
  • Manage and maintain employee safety within the industrial facilities and on the work site.
  • Create and submit safety reports as needed.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering or similar disciplines required. A mix of education and pertinent experience will be considered.
  • CRSP designation is a very strong asset.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in implementing and promoting safe work practices and policies within a similar environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Industrial Establishments Regulations and all applicable regulations.
  • Certifications related to safety procedures required
  • Experience in working with JHSCs in a unionized environment is a must.
  • Certified JHSC member in the industrial sector is a very strong asset.
  • Detail oriented and highly organized.
  • Experience in prioritizing and performing well under pressure in a fast paced and distracting environment.
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset.
